A mid week hike to the van Gaalen cheese farm at the upper end of the Hartebeesport dam. Nominally a hike for pensioners only, but Tania was along as well, she had the day off. Otherwise we had Judith, Frans, Tom, Pam, Jenny and Janine.
We met fairly punctual at the cheese farm. The hike we selected was fairly easy, all along the river and back on the other side, a total of 12km. On the way out one of the managers gave us a bit of advice. There are two bridges we can use to return over to this side again on the way back. The first one is a solid bridge, the second one a floating bridge. Looking at us he indicated that we should rather use the first one, the second bridge has some difficulties. Thus on the way back when we came to the sign showing the two bridges it was essential that Jenny and I would go and have a look at the floating bridge. This turned out to be much more adventures and it got me into the cold water up to my hips. Jenny only got the water up to the ankles. It was fun.
Coming back to base we sat around a bit, had something to eat and said good bye. We have to come back here to do the hike to the Greek church, that one is a bit uphill, we leave that for later.
